Primavera I & II: The 2012 Maine Figure Exhibitions
Primavera I & II is an art gallery exhibition that celebrates artistic interpretations of the human figure, the nude, in the 21st Century. Its roots from Latin, Primavera literally means "first green", meaning Spring. It's fitting, then, that Primavera ushers in Spring in Maine. The nude has been celebrated in art for thousands of years, and this is your chance to provide a sample of your own fine art interpretation of the modern nude. Maine artists who create two-dimensional works are invited to submit up to three images for consideration to be included in the inaugural event taking place this spring at Galerie Dufour in Belfast. Deadlines are fast approaching for what promises to be a competitive process, so act today to be part of this fine art nude exhibition.
THE PRIMAVERA EXHIBITIONS:
Submissions in 2012 are limited to two-dimensional artwork including photographs (Primavera I) and figure drawings, block prints, or paintings (Primavera II) by artists who are part-time or full-time residents of Maine. Submissions must be fine art nudes and not from other artistic genres (see RULES and TERMS REGARDING ART SUBMISSIONS at the bottom of this document).
Judges will be looking for quality artwork that depicts the nude with respect. Judges will be selecting artwork that they find artistically strong for any of a variety of points including but not limited to its composition, style, emotional capture/expression, technical detail, or mastery of its medium, for example. To be clear, this is not an erotica exhibition, it is a fine art nude exhibition. Again, please read the detailed descriptions at the end of this form under "Rules and Terms Regarding Art Submissions if you are unsure about Primavera's focus.

Limit of 3 images per artist may be submitted for consideration. Judges will select either one or no artwork by each artist per medium. Therefore, submitting 3 images increases an artist's chances of having one of his/her works accepted, but not the number of pieces by that artist that might be selected. This rule is to increase the variety of works exhibited and the number of artists represented in the show and is not a referendum on the quality of the second and/or third images that were submitted by any participating artist.
Submission of your work does not guarantee selection; Fees will not be refunded.

RULES and TERMS REGARDING ART SUBMISSIONS OF NUDES:
Important: As a fairly good GENERAL RULE, if the artwork submitted appears to be focused primarily on sexually arousing the viewer, it will be considered "erotica" and not "fine art nude", and it will not be acceptable for Primavera. The rejected image may work well in an "erotica" art exhibition, but not in this particular "fine art nude" exhibition. Do not misinterpret this as a question of an artist's taste, but rather a question of fit for the artistic genre of this particular exhibition. For instance, also rejected would be artwork that features only humans who are fully clothed, beautiful landscapes, family portraits, product advertisements, or obscure abstractions that are indeterminably "nudes". These examples also do not fit the "fine art nude" genre for Primavera and would also be rejected regardless of quality.
While interpretations of art are admittedly subjective, the sensitive nature of this genre in today's American society makes this point particularly salient for a fine art exhibition. The judges' decisions will be based on their own personal and professional sensibilities and art acumen. Images that are considered by the judges to be overtly sexual, highly erotic, promoting violence or disrespect toward others, or pornographic will be rejected on those grounds.
Entry fees are non-refundable regardless of acceptance or rejection for any reason and Judges' decisions are final.
.Submissions are considered acknowledgment of and agreement to the preceding rules and terms, as well as acceptance of the judges' final decisions. Do not submit your work for consideration if you cannot accept these terms.
