About Charles Laurier Dufour, Galerie Dufour, and Belfast, Maine My appreciation of natural beauty was certainly influenced by my upbringing in the most North Eastern town in the United States, Madawaska, Maine. I logged thousands of miles hiking, cross-country running, and snowshoeing. I learned to truly love the outdoors. I purchased my first SLR camera when I was in college and enrolled in my first darkroom course. I was hooked. I knew it would be my life's pastime once my career got settled. After spending 22 years away, I returned to Maine and currently reside in the art-friendly coastal community of Belfast. To showcase my artwork, in 2003 I opened Indigo Gallery in Belfast, changing the name to Galerie Dufour in 2009. All of the images in this online gallery were printed, matted, framed, and have hung on actual art gallery walls. I participate in several group and solo exhibitions outside of Belfast each year. If you are interested in seeing my work exhibited at an art gallery in your community, drop me a line. Some of my photographs have been featured in books and magazines, and a few have earned critical acclaim. The Maine landscape and seascape are an artist's dream. There are dozens of art galleries to whet your appetite when you're not out exploring. From June through December, Belfast hosts an art walk on the first Friday evening of the month, and in July and August, the art walk is EVERY Friday evening (www.belfastartwalk.com)! Galerie Dufour hosts a reception during each art walk. I create 5 or 6 themed exhibitions for Galerie Dufour each season, with openings every 3 or 4 weeks between June and October.
Belfast is a coastal community centrally located about a half hour North of the Camden-Rockport-Rockland area and just over an hour South of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Portland is about 2 hours South of Belfast.
